Far North District Climate Adaptation

About the project

Far North District Council were just about to begin Council-led community adaptation planning in their top priority communities, and recognised that many other communities might feel left out, and/or were itching to get started on their own climate adaptation journeys. Together, we proposed a new strategic pillar in their climate adaptation programme: community adaptation toolkits.

These toolkits are standalone resources for communities to lead key aspects of adaptation planning, making accessible the process set out by the Ministry for the Environment. There are separate guides and resources to support early engagement, risk assessment, articulating values and objectives, identifying vulnerabilities and evaluating adaptation options - 100% community-led.

My role

I led development of this strategic pillar, creating our theory of change and the series of targeted deliverables to achieve that change. I researched and wrote all of the content, sometimes translating technical information into plain language for communities.

I worked with my long-time collaborator, designer Simone Reynolds (no relation), who led the layout and design.
